Muriya, Oman’s leading tourism development company has partnered with Salalah based Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), Around the Ocean to provide various water based activities to the Salalah Beach destination. Located on the marina promenade, Around the Ocean will offer fishing, snorkelling and dolphin watching excursions, in addition to boat trips around the destination’s man-made lagoons and a unique ‘BBQ Donut’ that serves guests as a floating restaurant table.

Issam Al Barwani, Senior Director Destination Operations, Salalah Beach, said, “The latest addition to Salalah Beach will enhance the leisure activities already available and allow guests to explore the tropical waters of the Indian Ocean. We are encouraging year-round tourism by developing the facilities at Salalah Beach to appeal to sun lovers and water sports’ enthusiasts as well as the annual influx of tourists during Khareef. As the destination takes shape, we are committed to delivering long-term direct social and economic benefits to the community by providing a platform for local service providers to bring their expertise and offer guests an authentic experience.”

This is the first time, whereby we have introducedwater-based activities on the inland waterways and out in the ocean. Whether enjoying a customised fishing trip, a dolphin tour, water skiing or a BBQ in the middle of the ocean, we are here to create new and memorable times for our guests.”

Tourism in Salalah has continued to grow and the Ministry of Tourism expects to welcome in excess of 400,000 visitors during Khareef this year, with the new Salalah International Airport expanding capacity to handle up to six million passengers annually. Muriya is continuing to add new facilities at its Salalah Beach destination to create a vibrant community featuring agrowing array of accommodation and hospitality options, restaurants, cafés, retail outlets and leisure facilities.

Muriya Tourism Development

Muriya is a joint venture between Orascom Development Holdings (70%), a leading developer of integrated destinations and Omran (30%), the tourism development arm of the Omani Government. The company was created in 2006 to stimulate external leisure investment in Oman and showcase the history, culture and natural beauty of the country, in which time it has grown into Oman’s leading tourism developer.

Muriya currently has four development projects under construction; Jebel Sifah, located 45 minutes from Muscat, Salalah Beach, adjacent to the ancient city of Salalah situated in a tropical destination on the Arabian Peninsula in the far southeast of Oman, and As Sodah Island, an hour by helicopter from Salalah, located in the Indian Ocean and City Walk located in the heart of the capital Muscat.
