Sergei Shpilko, Chairman of Moscow City Committee on Tourism and Hotel Industry will speak at the Russia & CIS Hotel Investment Conference (RHIC), taking place from 20-22 October at Radisson Royal Hotel. Shpilko commented “Moscow is a great place for both leisure and business travelers and a great platform for investors. We’ve seen many new trends in the investment market. A few years ago investors preferred to invest in 4 or 5 star hotels, whereas now there is focus on the actively developing regional hotels and the mid- market sector. “Apart hotels” are also attracting investment which can offer double the yield of traditional hotels. “
Supply in the luxury sector is more or less in line with demand in Moscow and St. Petersburg, with occasional openings each few years not having too hard an impact on results. Moscow itself still offers considerable growth opportunities in the branded economy and midscale markets with 10,000 – 15,000 rooms expected in the next five to seven years, according to David Jenkins, Executive Vice President of JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group. We are now beginning to see development projects in the Russian regions converted into hotel openings, commented Jenkins “After a long period of development we can now begin to see the majority of key Russian regional cities opening new branded hotels in many segments from a range of brands. There is a push for more development aligned to the 2018 World Cup but we do need to start analyzing actual results now to determine the real demand for sustainable development”
We are seeing very strong hotel performances in Tbilisi, Georgia as well as a significant development pipeline, and a surge in interest in Astana aligned to the Astana Expo 2017. “We feel it was important to also reflect both of these markets in round table discussions during this year’s RHIC” said Jenkins.
“We believe that given the close co-operation with the authorities in Moscow and St. Petersburg, RHIC, despite the unstable geo-political situation will remain the venue for the signing of investment projects and the adoption of strategic decisions by both foreign and local investors” said Jonathan Worsley, Chairman of Bench Events and co-organiser of RHIC.
