The Pakistan Consulate won the second season of the Danube Diplomat Cup beating arch rivals Indian Consulate in a thrilling finale which was played at Insports Club in front of a large crowd supporting their respective teams and also in the presence of legendary Indian Cricketer Mr.Sunil Gavaskar , the brand ambassador of Danube Properties.

A total 10 Consulate teams took part in the second edition of the Diplomat Cup which were Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Srilanka, New Zealand and United Arab Emirates. The above teams were divided into two pools of five each including India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh Srilanka in pool A and Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, England and United Arab Emirates in Pool B.

Before the games begun, there was a brief silence observed to respect the passing of Australian batsman Philip Hughes.

After that all the Consulates were invited on the dias along with Sunil Gavaskar, who is

also the brand Ambassador of Danube Properties, who declared the Danube Diplomat Tournament open. It was a great atmosphere to see all Consulates gathered under roof in their respective cricketing kits fighting to win the coveted Danube Diplomat cup. Gavaskar did the toss for every teams match and the highlight of it was to see the National Anthems of every team being played before the game.

Another highlight was that United Arab Emirates team was captained by none other than Waleed Bukhatir, son of Legendary Abdul Rahman Bukhatir who was the pioneer in starting Cricket in United Arab Emirates.

Everyone’s eye was awaiting the clash of India vs Pakistan in the Pool A group match and it was India who got the better of Pakistan in that game. Similarly archrivals England got the better of Australia in their Pool B league game. In the league stage in Pool A, India and Pakistan topped their group respectively and in Pool B it was United Arab Emirates and England topping their groups.

To make sure all the other six teams participate, they were placed according to their seedings in the plate event and it was New Zealand who played Bangladesh in plate event semifinals and Afghanistan played South Africa in the other semifinal.

Bangladesh got the better of New Zealand in a close semifinal beating them by 7 runs and Afghanistan beat South Africa In the other semifinal. The plate final was won by Bangladesh who beat Afghanistan in a close finale by 9 runs who came fifth followed by Afghanistan, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Srilanka who placed sixth, seventh, eight, ninth and tenth respectively.

All eyes were on the main event where India got the better of England in the first semifinal and Pakistan beat United Arab Emirates in the other Semifinal. The second last match was played between United Arab Emirates and England who played for pride to get the third place and it was United Arab Emirates who beat England to get the third position.

So the grand finale was a repeat of last year where India clashed with Pakistan and it was Pakistan that beat India by 3 runs this year in a keenly contested finale. India who batted first scored 23 runs but Pakistan played a good match to win the coveted Danube Diplomat cup. Sunil Gavaskar who stayed back till late midnight gave away the prizes to all the teams.

Mr. Anis Sajan, Managing Director of Danube Group whose brain Child was the Danube Diplomat’s Cup was thrilled by the turnout and success and announced that the third season to take place next year would be announced soon.
