Alto Mar is famous Chef Luís Salgueiro’s latest project in the UAE, where the richness of local products is combined with Mediterranean flavors to offer the guests the most scrumptious and visually appealing dishes.
Chef Luís Salgueiro was born in Portugal, where he started cooking at the age of 16, working for his parents’ restaurant and bakery. That passion soon led him to taking several culinarycourses including at Lenôtre School, in France, and at the Hospitality School of Algarve, Portugal, where he also taught classes for eight years.
In between studies, Chef Luís was invited to lead several training projects for Starwood Group brands such as Sheraton, Le Meridien and Westin. In 2004, the Grand Hyatt Dubai invited him to promote Portuguese cuisine, to offer a homage to the European Football Championship that was being held in Portugal. He has also trained chefs from notable hotel groups, such as the Burj Al Arab and used his experience to enrich budding chefs with the culinary acumen to succeed and grow in the industry.
Additionally, Chef Luís has worked in Brazil, Spain, Finland, Germany and France. He returned to Dubai in 2012 to open the city’s only Portuguese restaurant – Picante.
