Dates are the fruit of palm trees which are widely spread in the Arab and Gulf region. In ancient times, meals of the Arabs would constitute mostly of dates on a daily basis as they possess high nutritional value as well as sugar, proteins and essential minerals, thereby creating a balanced meal. Because of their ability to boost the body’s energy level yet ease the digestion process, dates are first consumed when breaking the fast during Ramadan.

“The United Arab Emirates is keen to increase the cultivation of date palms as well as increase their productivity and quality. Our initiative highlights the importance of maintaining the local production and marketing of dates as it is related to the heritage of the UAE, and to the fact that the Arab region is the original home of the date palm tree. We have organized this event to encourage date cultivation and to give the opportunity for the guests to pick the finest and best dates, as well as buy some of the many date derived products that are showcased.’’, said Mark Timbrell, General Manager of Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana.

Over the course of the 10 day festival, guests will not only discover more about dates, they will also get the chance to explore their derivatives like date vinegar, syrup, jams, pickles, juices, sweets and more.  Visitors will also be able to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere building up to Ramadan.
