La Cantine du Faubourg in collaboration with Nicholas Spree from Woodbury Art Dubai welcomes November’s art scene with the story of Richard Hambleton, the flashpoint of the Downtown New York art movement, close friends of the late Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat and overall elusive genius. The dining destination continues its out-of-the-ordinary restaurant concept—relying on the five key principles: sound, music, image, food and art– with an exhibition entitled ‘The Godfather of Street Art’. Three never-before-seen Richard Hambleton original pieces will be showcased.
Richard Hambleton is recognized as one of the most legendary pop expressionists in history. His work is world-renowned for having permeated the collective consciousness of its viewers as the largest social experiment through art. On his work, Hambleton has been quoted “…what makes them exciting is the power of the viewer’s imagination- that split second experience when you see the figures, that matter.”
“We are truly honoured to bring to Dubai for the first time the artwork of such a renowned figure in the pop expressionist movemen. Driven by mentor Andy Warhol, Richard Hambleton has influenced many of today’s best-known street artists including Banksy and French artist, Blek le Rat,” says Rizwan Kassim, co- owner, La Cantine du Faubourg, Dubai. “La Cantine du Faubourg is a unique setting for Richard’s work and underscores our commitment to creating compelling new experiences for our guests.”
On the 16th of November, La Cantine du Faubourg sees ten of Richard Hambleton’s limited editions revealed, with three original acrylic on canvas pieces, reminding viewers of the vulnerability and intensity of human life.
