In order to further improve the guests’ culinary experience, Kempinski Hotel Ajman has started the new season of organic farming on the hotel premises, over an area of 18,025 sq ft, which has been allocated to grow organic fruits and vegetables.

Organic farming was started in Q3 2015 on an experimental basis at the beginning, after which it was then found to be feasible and sustainable. The vegetables and fruits in the hotel garden are planted in soil which is mixed with food compost and natural manure, and the growth is carefully and regularly observed. Watering is done using recycled water from an in-house treatment plant. Depending upon the season and weather conditions, the organic vegetables which are grown in the organic garden are cabbage, carrot, radish, spinach, tomato, chilli, okra (ladies’ fingers), eggplant and Brassica oleracea. Similarly, lemon trees, bananas, sapodillas (chikoo fruit) and pomegranates are planted in the hotel garden.

The season’s first phase of organic vegetable planting has been led by Director of Engineering Mr Basant Kushwaha, with the planting 1,500 specimens of Brassica oleracea, chilli and tomato in the front part of the hotel’s landscape, involving more than 50 hoteliers and General Manager Mr Kai Schukowski.

Kempinski Hotel Ajman has also set up the “Green Inspiration Team”, in order to enhance the green activities under the leadership of Alice Aye Moh as the hotel’s “Green Champion”, accompanied by the support of departmental representatives.

“We have recently rebranded one of our signature restaurants as the Organic Italian restaurant, Sabella’s, where the organically sourced fresh vegetables and fruits are being served to our guests from garden to plate, excelling in taste, which is natural and healthy. And what would be a better way to highlight the importance of organic and locally sourced ingredients than creating a new, innovative restaurant concept and offering guests a 100% organic menu? For us, organic food means authentic, whilst the organic ingredients are much tastier and healthier, and as a five-star hotel, we believe that the taste and quality of the food is primary. The well-being of our guests is our utmost aim and the greatest reward,” concluded Mr Kai Schukowski, General Manager, Kempinski Hotel Ajman.
